Folks, I am gushing with excitement over this one. So excited that I almost jumped the gun and wrote the first entry yesterday on top of the conclusion to the last series. The theme we are going to be exploring is the feeling of being small. And, as has been the trend lately, it will be centered around another movie from my favorites list: Chicken Little!
As I was reflecting on what movie to write about, I started running through my list of childhood favorites. And sometimes I have a movie that was simply good fun, and others that really feel like they have stuck for some reason. Growing up, I think Chicken Little may have been more in the first category, but right now it has been in the second category for some reason.
I think it’s because lately I have been feeling exceptionally small. While I’m definitely growing a whole lot, I can still confidently say that work is pretty hard. I’m getting used to it all physically, but the scruffy atmosphere and constant angry-yelling is something that I have been slow to adapt to. I’m getting there, but my mind has been taking its sweet time to really figure this one out.
So when I thought about my favorite movies to reflect on, this one came to mind instantly. And as I watched it as a refresher, I realized that there was a lot to reflect on. I felt like I had hit the jackpot of movie-insights! That’s why I’m really excited to share this chapter with you. There’s so much to share and I hope I can fit it all into two weeks!
But, in a nutshell, I want to follow this idea of smallness. I think most of us have felt small at one point or another in their lives. And if you haven’t felt small, you have definitely been small. From your actual height, to your status in the world you are in, we have all known the feeling of not being king of the hill. And it kind of sucks. Maybe you have taken it gracefully. Maybe you have had good people around you. But being small still just
Plain
sucks.
And it’s so easy in those times to think to yourself about what could happen. What you feel will happen. It’s like looking off the side of a bridge. You might have a good, sturdy structure that you know you won’t fall off of. Or you might have a rickety one that has planks that are ready to break. Whatever the case, you can’t help but get that sense of vertigo when you look down at how far you could fall, if just one little thing went wrong. It’s a pretty natural feeling, but oh does it irk us all the same.
And that’s the thing that I want to study. I want to look at what’s normal, what’s problematic, what could be fixed and how we could make our situations better if we find ourselves here. I have a lot that I want to dig into, but I’m saving a bunch of my ideas until I can dive into them in full. For now, I’d say this: tune in if you can relate to the feeling of being small. Maybe you’re like me, and have no real reason to feel small, but do anyway. Maybe you feel like you have a reason but want the feeling to stop holding you back. Or maybe you just want to see what’s going on in my ever-busy mind. Whatever the case, I hope you are ready for another adventure, because I’m more than ready to bring it to you.
So I pray your day is blessed, and that your heart is prepared for the journey we are about to begin. I pray this blesses your life and brings you to a place of greater peace. After all, there is no greater guide than the peace that passes understanding.
Until next time
May Peace be your Guide.
