Yesterday I was hit by one of my favorite songs by Battle Beast. The song is addicting anyway, but a thought crossed my mind that I thought would make for an interesting post. So here goes nothing.

Even though the song is addicting as heck, you don’t really have to listen to the song to follow me. I was just thinking about this idea of going to those places that even those who are a force to be reckoned with are scared to go. I think we have all had something like this happen once or twice: someone far wiser, far more powerful than ourselves tells us to be careful around certain things, and that becomes the first thing we want to do. Or maybe we set out to do something huge and everyone tells us it won’t work out. Whatever the case, those people feel like our almighty angels and they are telling us where not to fly.

Now, I’m not so fearful as to say that we should abandon all hope when angels tell us to fear the flight. But I do think that we should heed this as a warning sign that the flight won’t be easy. I have had a few times in my life where people have warned me about doing something and it got me excited. I then charged headlong into the skies, only to be sent hurtling back down to earth with a mighty crash, fully aware of why the warnings were sent.

The moral of the story is that we need to prepare ourselves to light the midnight sun. The first step is to know that things will be difficult. The beast will bite back, and a great and mighty war will most certainly follow. But this knowledge will help to steel our hearts, to inoculate us to the initial shock of what we discover on our new horizons.

And part of being prepared is to know that we will be knocked down. Once we know this, we can be better prepared to fall. But we won’t remain amongst the fallen. We shall rise again

And again

And again.

We must know preemptively that we will continue the cycle of rising and falling until the victory is won. This is no children’s playground. Even the mightiest of beings fall in such a place! You will have to nurture a will of steel to truly spread your wings at such great heights. Know that your very essence will be tried and tested. So be prepared to declare loud and proud “I’m ready for the pain!”

But we do not wish to be trapped in a cycle of pain and gain. Though we must accept that falling is inevitable, we shouldn’t use this as an excuse not to grow in wisdom. After all, we still dwell amongst the mortals, those of flesh and blood with severe limitations. We must learn to dwell within those limitations and to respect them.

Stubbornness can be ours to wield like a mighty hammer, but it must not be the only means of survival. After all, what good is destruction atop the frozen heights? One does not simply smash mother nature and her relentless elements. No, we must learn adaptability, understanding, cleverness and wisdom in order to rise to greater heights. And we must possess these powers in overflowing abundance, for there are reasons that the angels fear to fly here. This is no land for ordinary men! Only those with exceptional bravery, or foolishness, tread these sacred grounds.

But once you conquer these lands, it will be you who can light up horizons. It will be you who commands thunder and lightning. They will bow to your demands, and all will tremble when they hear your great name! But more importantly: it will be you who scoffs at the great voice of the past, echoing through your chest the pride of victory. Never would it be said that the road was simple or easy. Those you revered will declare themselves amongst the fallen. But with enough preparation, wisdom and ferocity, you will unleash a mighty roar unlike anything ever heard amongst any of the nations of the past. The throne will hold itself for you, and the title of lord, of great champion, will be yours forever more. But only with the proper commitment to tread where angels fear to fly.

Until next time

May peace be your Guide.
